Positive Touch 1 - 1-Day Workshop

Positive Touch 1 is the first Introductory Course in Massage held at the Positive Health Academy of Massage and Aromatherapy.

The aim of this course is to introduce you to massage techniques that are of benefit for relaxing muscles and helping with stress management. It is an introductory course only, and afterwards you should be competent enough to massage friends and family members for relaxation purposes - to release the three Ts – tension, tightness and toxins. It will not equip you to practice as a massage therapist for gain.  There are Diploma Courses for that.

If you have attended the Introductory Massage Workshops at the Positive Health Academy, and you sign up for the diploma course in Holistic Massage, you will be credited the cost of the workshop/s.

What you will learn on the day:

  • Introduction to massage
  • The benefits of massage
  • Contra-indications to massage
  • A seated back massage
  • Oils to use in massage
  • How to look after yourself when massaging
  • Elementary Anatomy and Physiology of the back and back of the legs
  • Swedish Massage techniques for the back, neck, shoulders and back of the legs.

The day will be broken into 4 quarters, with 2 breaks for tea and 1 for lunch.

At the end of the day you should be able to:

  • List 5 contra-indications to massage
  • Perform a ten-minute seated massage over clothes
  • Give a back massage using oil
  • Give a shoulder and neck massage using oil
  • Give a massage to the back of the legs using oil
