Massage During Pregnancy – 2 ½-day Course
Pregnancy is a special time of change in a woman's body. It can be a time of discomfort for the woman and special care is called for.
The aim of this course is to further equip qualified massage therapists with the skills and knowledge to massage a woman during the three trimesters. It is a 2 ½ -day intensive course and the prerequisite of a recognised massage diploma which incorporates a comprehensive Anatomy and Physiology module is absolutely essential. What you will learn over the 2 ½ days
- Review of general Anatomy and Physiology
- The anatomy of the pregnant female
- The changes to the female body over the three trimesters
- Contra-indications to massage during pregnancy
- Oils to use (and not use)
- Common discomforts in pregnancy and how massage can help
- How to position a pregnant female for massage
- Specialised massage techniques for the pregnant female
- Energy work/Intention/Calming exercises
Students will learn to work on the floor and on a massage table and with a gym ball. There is an expectation of further home study and case studies to be done. There will be a final half day 3 months later when pregnant clients will be present and students will be assessed on their work with these clients. An internal certificate of attendance and competence will be issued. Positive Health is looking at accreditation with an international body. Further details on application.
Classes will be small to ensure individualised attention.
All consumables will be provided, as will massage tables, chairs, gym balls, pillows, etc., tea and coffee and a manual to take away. There is a course book which is recommended reading. Further details on application.
